About Dr. Kenji Oyasu

Dr. Kenji Oyasu

Dr. Kenji Oyasu is a board-certified physician in Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine.

Over his 30-year career in the ER, Dr. Oyasu witnessed firsthand the growing epidemic of opioid addiction, along with the severe shortage of treatment resources. In 2017, he founded ModernMed Recovery to offer patients immediate stability through Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and compassionate care aimed at long-term, meaningful recovery.

In 2025, he launched ModernMed Concierge to provide personalized, discreet, timely concierge care for patients. His nearly three decades of experience in seeing, diagnosing, and treating issues related to almost every subspecialty of medicine give him a unique advantage and perspective as a concierge physician. He is a firm believer in a multi-disciplinary approach to optimizing health, including the use of Hormone Replacement Therapy. As Dr. Kenji always says, “the goal isn’t to add years to your life, but life to your years.”

Kenji was born and raised in the Chicago area and lives in Chicago with his wife, Danielle, the founder and executive director of med spa, Beautifully New. They raised their children, Jake, Abbey, and Ava, in Park Ridge, IL. Time permitting, he tries to catch a game at Wrigley Field or hit the course for 18 holes, most often with the whole family.

He serves on the board of directors for the Lake County Opioid Initiative and the medical committee for the Chicago Area Opioid Task Force. He is a member of The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and The American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP).

What Makes Us Different

Concierge medicine has become popular recently for good reasons. Usually, a traditional primary care doctor manages a patient panel of over 2,000 and sees more than 20 patients each day. When you have questions, concerns, or needs, the last thing you want is to wait for an appointment in their busy schedules. Concierge medicine provides a direct connection to a doctor with no wait time and without the typical hassle of insurance or corporate health systems.

While internists and family medicine physicians serve most concierge practices, my three decades in Emergency Medicine make me a different kind of concierge doctor. I’ve seen, diagnosed, and treated a wide range of patients with issues from nearly every subspecialty. In short, I have seen and heard just about everything. I know what constitutes an emergency and what doesn’t.

In the ER, I rarely spend more than a day with a patient. That’s just the reality of the job. I started ModernMed Recovery and ModernMed Concierge because I know building long-term relationships with patients is crucial. Nothing has given me more personal and professional fulfillment with MMR than guiding my patients through the entire process, watching their progress, and seeing them stabilize.

I was trained to make quick reads and decisions, and I use that skill as a concierge doctor: providing timely reassurance, peace of mind, and guidance. But my career has shown me that proper care is all about the relationship. The deeper it is, the better I can serve my patients.
